Eclipse Season: Find Your Center

ree

Today, September 17, is a full moon lunar eclipse which can bring up all sorts of destined change and even chaos in our lives. I personally have been feeling a building anxiety and restlessness in the days leading up to it.

Eclipses will propel us toward our destiny and also redirect us if we are on the wrong path. They are a time of destined upheaval where we hear of marriage, divorce, engagements, pregnancies, babies born, deaths, break ups, new jobs, and new homes. These are all the big life changes you can expect during eclipse season.

If you are feeling the calling to go through with a big change in your life now, I implore you to listen. It is your soul trying to give you a message. Your higher self speaks to you in the language of intuition, excitement, inspiration and symbols. The ego will try to dissuade you but sometimes you need to take the leap. Jump off the cliff into the unknown and see where you land.

Letting go or making a big change can be the hardest thing to do even when deep down we know it is the right choice. The ego will struggle and fight against this because it’s deepest terror is the unknown path, like taking a road trip with no map or clear destination. The ego’s only job is to keep us on a safe path, a known path with known outcomes. It doesn’t care if we are unhappy, it’s main concern is that we are safe.

Oftentimes, the ego will have a deep rebellion over our big life changes and will offer no support. Instead it will provide a never-ending stream of fear, doubts, insults, criticism, shame and guilt in attempts to shift our path. It has a way of berating us to keep us “safe,” to keep us small. The main objective is to protect us and keep us from suffering, pain, and death, but at what cost? Sometimes the ego's influence can keep us from truly living the life of our dreams.

The proposed solution is to kill it, to allow it to die and be free of it. But I think instead, we should honor it. We don’t need to demonize something that is inherently a part of us, and ultimately trying to protect us from harm.

If we can begin to instead recognize the ego’s stories and witness them, that is the first step toward integrating the ego into our consciousness. We can become aware of its stories and watch them coming up, witness its patterns and then gently push them aside.

Meditation is a great way to practice witnessing our thoughts and is a profound tool for self awareness. I love to curate a beautiful altar to use for inspiration and reflection in my meditation practice. A favorite element that I especially enjoy is a selenite crystal lamp on my altar where I meditate. It adds a soft glow and a focal point when I need it. Having a beautiful warm space to return to day after day is something that will have you looking forward to your contemplative time.

A message I received in a dream is “Transcend the ego, live a life without limits.” I have come to realize that in order to transcend the ego it is really all about integration. Spending time in meditation can truly assist in this process.

We can thank the ego for trying to protect us and then let it be. Lovingly offer gratitude to the ego for doing its job, and then ask it to step aside while your higher self takes the lead. We can let its voice fall to the side, out of earshot where we can begin to listen to the messages of our hearts.
